You grew up in light
I put a blanket over
my raven dark hair
I thought it looked good
to cover my too-short hair
with a tangled wig
A mirror I loved
above an Aunt's bathroom sink
it softened my eyes
A whole summer spent
examining teeth and skin
and tight skinny limbs
A pair of white shorts
a purple Gap tee shirt tucked
and blinding white shoes
