What I really want to do is put my head down like we had to in elementary school if we got too loud. Did your teacher do that? If things got too rowdy the lights were flipped off and heads had to be in arms on tiny desks. At first we’d peek from underneath elbows and wrists but eventually breathing would become calm and even, almost into slumber. I remember one particularly crafty teacher kept the lights dimmed for another half hour or so; the calm needn’t be disturbed while she moved on to dangling participles or decimals or decibels.
